Virgin Media O2 has expanded O2 Satellite to compatible Google Pixel devices, marking another milestone for the UK’s first and only direct-to-device satellite service.
The expansion means more customers can access satellite-powered connectivity in areas beyond the reach of the traditional mobile network, helping them stay connected when travelling through remote locations or during unexpected outages.
Launched earlier this year, O2 Satellite allows customers to connect directly to satellites using everyday smartphones, without the need for specialist equipment. The service was initially available on selected devices, and Virgin Media O2 has expanded availability to more devices in recent weeks.
The service has boosted Virgin Media O2’s UK landmass coverage to 95%, delivering a coverage uplift equivalent to an area around two thirds the size of Wales.
Support for Google Pixel devices follows the introduction of Apple compatibility last month and represents another milestone in Virgin Media O2’s ambition to bring satellite connectivity to as many customers as possible.
Available as a £3-per-month Bolt On, on standard pay monthly plans, and included at no extra cost for Ultimate Plan customers, O2 Satellite is already helping tens of thousands of customers stay connected in remote areas.
