Beyond Battery Anxiety: HONOR Magic V5 Powers Through Reading of World’s Longest Novel

Today, global leading AI device ecosystem company, HONOR unveiled the results of a groundbreaking challenge recently undertaken in smartphone battery life. As part of the celebrations for the new HONOR Magic V5, the brand announced “The Unbroken Read” – a literary ultramarathon that saw HONOR challenge a professional speed reader to read the entirety of Marcel Proust’s ‘In Search of Lost Time’ (also known as Remembrance of Things Past), all 4,300 pages, on a single charge of the new HONOR Magic V5 smartphone.

This monumental 30-hour challenge where the battery beats the book  was an epic journey through one of literature’s most formidable (and longest) works, showcasing that the HONOR V5’s comprehensive 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery, could manage this feat of endurance with ease.

“We set out to prove that battery anxiety doesn’t have to be part of the smartphone experience,” said Bond Zhang, CEO of HONOR UK & Ireland. “The results speak for themselves. A single charge that outlasted what would have required multiple recharges on other foldables. What the HONOR Magic V5 offers is freedom from interruption, allowing users to fully immerse themselves in any activity without a second thought about battery life. Be it through reading the world’s longest novel, running a marathon or someone simply watching their favourite TV series in one go.”

The Unbroken Read saw elite speed reader Jordan Harry of StudyFast (a company dedicated to accelerated learning), tackle the text, reading directly from the Magic V5’s stunning foldable display with a film capturing the entire challenge from start to finish

When HONOR approached me with the ‘Unbroken Read’ challenge, I knew this was about more than reading, it was a test of human, and technological endurance,” said Jordan Harry, Director at StudyFast. “Reading 4,300 pages in under 40 hours, on a single charge, is an incredible achievement that I’m extremely proud of. The Magic V5’s outstanding battery life, lightweight design and stunning screen not only helped to make this possible, but also enjoyable, allowing me to stay fully immersed in the text without having to worry about power.”

The new foldable device boasts a formidable 7.95-inch display when open, which offers expansive viewing, and a 6.43-inch outer screen. Both screens offer the opportunity for uninterrupted viewing or productivity. Its shock-absorbing structure enables a lightweight yet durable build, weighing just 217g. The screen is a comfortable 4.1mm when unfolded, making it distinctly slimmer than many smartphones on the market.

The final scores were:

The read lasted for 30.5 hours, and 4,300 pages were read, which amounts to 1.2 million words and 7 million characters. At the end of the challenge, the final battery life remaining was still an impressive 10%.

Available in Dawn Gold, Ivory White, and Black, the device sets a new standard for smartphone endurance, ensuring users can go beyond, giving them the freedom to achieve and do more without being tethered to a charger.
