Phones are getting smarter and smarter in every update, so would you believe that it was a whole 10 YEARS ago we got hands on the first ever Android device, the T-Mobile G1.
With ‘App Store’ still being a new at the time, the option of having a Google made smartphone with access to a wide range of services and applications away from the iPhone was something many wanted to experience.
Back then loading a map on the screen in 20 seconds was a huge selling point, fast forward 10 years with blazing fast data speeds and we expect richer, more detailed mapping in around 2 seconds such is the fast paced environment we live in.
“Android devices have come a long way since the 3G T Mobile G1. Today, customers with the latest Android smartphones on EE can get Superfast 4G speeds over 400 Mbps as well as Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling. This not only means our customers get a great Android experience in more places, but they can also use their smartphone in ways we were only dreaming up back then – buying a coffee with Android Pay, streaming the latest blockbuster movie on the train or as a ticket to get into Wembley Stadium to watch England play.” Sharon Meadows, Director of Devices at EE and BT
As a personal note I remember working for T-Mobile at the time in a retail store, and getting hands on the G1 had a lot of excitement in the tech community.
Who else remembers the launch of the T-Mobile G1 and did you get one yourself?
This comes when we are just over a week away from the Google Pixel 3 and 3XL being announced as the latest flagship from Google and also expect the partnership with EE to continue.
